Wesleyan University wrestling standout Hayden Myers '26 has been named the Scholar Athlete of the Year by the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA), leading a strong showing for the Cardinals at the end-of-season awards. Myers, a Molecular Biology and Biochemistry major with a 3.975 GPA, also earned First Team All-NEWA honors after a remarkable senior season that included a Region 1 Championship and a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Division III Championships, marking his first All-American accolade. Additionally, four other Cardinals received All-NEWA Honorable Mention, and a total of 15 wrestlers were recognized on the NEWA All-Academic Team.
The Wesleyan baseball team rebounded from a weekend conference sweep with a decisive 16-6 victory over Albertus Magnus College on April 22. The Cardinals exploded for eight runs in the sixth inning, with James Marsden '26 leading the charge by scoring three runs. After trailing early, Wesleyan tied the game in the first inning and regained the lead with a series of strong performances, including key contributions from Kato Mangum '28 and Sebastian Ortiz '28. The Cardinals closed out their regular season at Dresser Diamond with this commanding win.
In men's golf, the Cardinals competed in the Little Three Championship on April 22, finishing third behind Amherst and Williams. Wesleyan managed to secure one win in the morning's foursome matches, with Gavin Sendar '28 and Jackson Hayes '27 triumphing over their Amherst opponents. In singles play, Johnathan Harlukowicz '27 excelled, winning both of his matches, while Sendar added another point for the team. Despite their efforts, the Cardinals were unable to capture the title.
Wesleyan women's lacrosse player Izzy Weintraub '26 was named the National Division III Co-Defensive Player of the Week after an impressive performance against Williams, where she recorded 12 saves in an 11-3 victory that clinched the 2026 Little Three Championship. Weintraub's efforts included holding Williams scoreless for over 43 minutes, and she now boasts a goals-against average of 6.05 this season. The Cardinals will look to build on this momentum in their regular season finale against Connecticut College on April 26.
