The Middlebury men's track and field team made headlines at the NESCAC Championships, where Toby Warmack not only claimed the high jump title but also set a new program record with a leap of 2.03 meters. The Panthers finished the first day of competition tied for third place with 29 points, alongside Williams. Sam Spector secured a second-place finish in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 56.04 meters, while Caleb Smith rewrote the long jump record with a mark of 7.07 meters, finishing third. The women's track and field team also performed admirably, sitting in third place with 24 points after day one. Lilly Wurtz led the way, winning the shot put with a program-record throw of 12.74 meters and earning a bronze in the hammer throw. Emma Mills advanced to the finals in the 100 hurdles, showcasing the depth of talent on both squads.
In softball, Middlebury split a doubleheader against Williams, losing the first game 6-1 but bouncing back to win the second 11-2. The Panthers' offense exploded in the nightcap, scoring nine runs in the seventh inning. McKenna Lont and Kristyn Carroll contributed key hits in the opener, while Jen Westphal’s solo home run provided a brief spark. The Panthers will look to build on this momentum in their upcoming games.
The Middlebury baseball team closed its regular season with a split against Williams, winning the first game 5-1 before falling 7-6 in the second contest. Will Ashley's walk-off home run in the first game capped a thrilling comeback from a 5-1 deficit. The Panthers will aim to carry this competitive spirit into the postseason.
In men's lacrosse, the Panthers faced a tough challenge, falling to top-ranked Tufts 21-11 in the NESCAC Quarterfinals. Despite a strong start, Middlebury struggled to maintain momentum against the Jumbos. Conversely, the women’s lacrosse team, ranked first, advanced to the semifinals with an impressive 18-6 victory over Bates, showcasing their dominance throughout the season. They will host the semifinals and finals at Peter Kohn Field on May 2 and 3.
On the golf course, the men's team is in seventh place after two rounds of the NESCAC Championship, with Jake Forrest tied for 11th individually. The Panthers will look to improve their standing in the final round. Additionally, Sabrina Kim from the women's hockey team was awarded the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, highlighting the academic and athletic excellence at Middlebury.
