Emory University’s track and field teams delivered strong performances at the University Athletic Association Championships, with the men's team finishing as runner-up and the women's team securing second place. Senior Henry Brandstadter was named the M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week after winning the 100 meters, 200 meters, long jump, and high jump, contributing 48 points to the Eagles' total of 198.5 points. His high jump mark of 2.03 meters set a personal record and was pivotal in Emory's success. The women's team also showcased remarkable talent, highlighted by freshman Kelsey Coley, who broke the program record in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 14.07 seconds to claim the UAA title. Megan Taylor won the 400-meter hurdles, and Jackie Chapman secured the discus championship with a throw of 44.01 meters. Both teams now look ahead to the upcoming NCAA Championships.
In baseball, the Emory Eagles concluded their season with a dramatic 16-15 loss in 10 innings against Oglethorpe University. The Eagles amassed a season-high 20 hits, with junior Jonathan Lang leading the offense with a 3-for-4 performance that included five RBIs. Zach Hanson also contributed significantly, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs and three doubles. Despite the loss, the season showcased the team's offensive depth and resilience.
In swimming and diving, senior Sven Becker was awarded the NCAA postgraduate scholarship, recognizing his academic and athletic excellence. Becker, who captained the Eagles to a UAA championship and a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships, becomes the 134th recipient of this prestigious award from Emory, underscoring the program's commitment to developing well-rounded student-athletes. His leadership and performance have left a lasting impact on the team as he prepares for graduate studies.
