Babson College's women's lacrosse team is set to face No. 24/15 Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the NEWMAC semifinals on Wednesday. The Beavers have a strong historical record against MIT, boasting a 40-8 all-time series lead since 1988. However, Babson has struggled recently, losing back-to-back meetings, including last year's NEWMAC Tournament final. Notably, the Beavers' regular season loss to the Engineers ended a 13-game winning streak in Cambridge that dated back to 1997. The upcoming match presents an opportunity for redemption and a chance to advance in the playoffs.
In recognition of their recent performances, Babson's Courtney Laden and Francesca Tamburini were honored with NEWMAC weekly awards. Laden, a sophomore, earned the Offensive Player of the Week title, while first-year Tamburini was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Their contributions have been pivotal during the team's current four-game winning streak, underscoring the Beavers' strong showing as they head into the semifinals.
Meanwhile, the Babson softball team is looking to maintain its momentum as they prepare to host Endicott College. The Beavers have a balanced historical record against the Gulls, sitting at 14-14 since their series began in 2000. Babson has performed well recently, winning five of the last seven encounters, including four straight games at home. The matchup on Tuesday will be crucial as the Beavers aim to continue their success and build confidence heading into the final stretch of the season.
