The Colby College softball team concluded its regular season with a split against Bowdoin College on May 3, celebrating senior day with a memorable walk-off 9-8 victory in the first game. KC DeSarno, Emma Burnham, and Kelsey Sullivan were among the six seniors honored before the second game, which saw Colby fall 6-3. In the opener, the Mules initially fell behind but rallied with a series of timely hits, including a walk-off home run from DeSimone in the eighth inning. The second game, however, did not go as planned, as Bowdoin's pitching and defense stifled Colby’s offense. The Mules finished the regular season with a 25-10 record and will look to build on this momentum in the upcoming NESCAC tournament.
Colby College baseball faced a challenging end to its season in the NESCAC quarterfinals against Amherst College. After a hard-fought 3-2 victory in the opening game on May 1, the Mules were unable to maintain their momentum, losing 3-0 in game one and narrowly falling 6-5 in game two on May 3. Matt Higgins pitched a strong game one, allowing only one earned run over seven innings, but the Mules could not capitalize on scoring opportunities. In the decisive second game, Colby battled back from an early deficit but ultimately fell short, concluding their season with a 19-15 record.
In men's lacrosse, first-year Eli Chilicki was recognized as the NESCAC Rookie of the Year, marking a significant achievement for the program. Chilicki led the Mules with 31 goals and 42 total points during the season, showcasing his potential as a key player for the future. His performance included multiple standout games, such as four goals against Conn. College. This honor reflects the growth of the Colby lacrosse program under Head Coach Jake Bernhardt.
In men's basketball, David McLaughlin has been appointed as the new head coach, returning to his alma mater after a successful coaching career at various levels. His experience and commitment to academic excellence align with Colby’s values, and he aims to build a competitive program moving forward.
