Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis junior Anikia Hou has been recognized as a finalist for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Sally Ride STEM Award, which honors student-athletes who excel in both their sport and academic pursuits in STEM fields. This accolade highlights Hou's commitment to academic excellence alongside her contributions on the court, underscoring the dual priorities of athletics and scholarship at Carnegie Mellon. The award, named in honor of the late astronaut and physicist Sally Ride, reflects the values of leadership and innovation that Carnegie Mellon instills in its student-athletes.
In addition to this recognition, the Tartans recently celebrated their senior athletes at the annual awards banquet held on April 29. The event, hosted in Simmons Auditorium, featured a procession of graduating athletes who received their graduation sashes and were honored for their contributions to Carnegie Mellon athletics. Director of Athletics Josh Centor commended the seniors for their resilience and achievements throughout their collegiate careers. The banquet also acknowledged select seniors who completed the Tartan Leaders of Tomorrow program, which fosters leadership skills through mentorship and community engagement. The event served as a fitting tribute to the dedication and hard work of the Tartans' senior class as they prepare to transition into their post-collegiate lives.
