Cornell University's men's lacrosse team saw its season come to a heartbreaking end on May 10, as they fell to Johns Hopkins University, 9-8, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Big Red led 6-3 at halftime but struggled offensively in the third quarter, allowing Johns Hopkins to tie the game. Freshman Rowyn Nurry led Cornell with three goals, while Brian Luzzi's late goal sent the match into overtime. However, Jimmy Ayers scored the decisive goal for Johns Hopkins just over a minute into the extra period. The loss capped a strong season for Cornell, which finished with a 14-5 record. Earlier in the week, four players were recognized as Nike Lacrosse Media All-Americans, with junior Willem Firth earning First Team honors after leading the nation in goals and points. Jack Cascadden, Brendan Staub, and Ryan Goldstein also received accolades, underscoring the team's individual talent despite the disappointing end to their campaign.
In women's lacrosse, senior defender Caitlin Tully was honored with an honorable mention from USA Lacrosse for her standout season. Tully, who served as team captain, was recognized for her defensive prowess, leading the Big Red in ground balls, caused turnovers, and draw controls. She concluded her collegiate career with notable statistics, including a season-high seven draw controls in a victory over Yale. Tully's contributions were pivotal throughout the season, earning her First Team All-Ivy League and Academic All-Ivy League distinctions. While the women's lacrosse season has concluded, Tully's legacy will be remembered as one of the program's best defenders.
