Meanwhile, the Middlebury men's lacrosse team also advanced in the NCAA Tournament, defeating #9 Dickinson 13-8 on the same day. The Panthers surged ahead with nine unanswered goals in the first half, showcasing a balanced attack led by Logan White and Will Ford, both of whom contributed multiple goals to secure the victory.
In track and field, the Panthers competed at the Farley Inter Regional Extravaganza hosted by Williams over the weekend. The men's team achieved two program records and numerous top-10 finishes, highlighting the depth of talent within the squad. The women's team also delivered strong performances across multiple events, further establishing Middlebury's reputation in track and field as they gear up for the upcoming championship meets.
The Middlebury baseball team faced a challenging weekend in the NESCAC Championship, bowing out with a 7-6 loss to Amherst in extra innings on May 9. After erasing a four-run deficit to force extra play, the Panthers fell short as the Mammoths scored three times in the 11th inning. Earlier in the weekend, Middlebury lost to #20 Tufts 14-7, despite Henry Ayers setting a program record for hits in a single season during the game.
In softball, the Panthers secured a thrilling 3-2 walk-off victory against Bates in the NESCAC Quarterfinals on May 9. Trailing 2-1 in the seventh inning, Middlebury rallied to tie the game and ultimately clinched the win in the eighth, marking a program record with 31 wins in a single season. This victory underscores the team's resilience and determination as they continue their postseason journey.
On the tennis front, Elsie Van Wieren of the women's team has been selected to participate in the NCAA Individual Championships, marking her second consecutive appearance in the tournament. Van Wieren, who holds a 22-6 singles record this season, will compete in the 32-player singles bracket beginning on May 22. Similarly, Julian Wu of the men's team has earned a spot in the NCAA Individual Championships, showcasing his strong performance throughout the season with a 12-4 record. Wu, who recently achieved his 80th career singles victory, will also compete for a national title starting on May 23.
