Richard Checo, a senior on the Lehigh men's lacrosse team, has been named an honorable mention All-American by Inside Lacrosse, marking a significant recognition in his distinguished career. This accolade follows his previous honorable mention from USA Lacrosse Magazine and highlights his exceptional performance throughout the season. Checo, who became the NCAA Division I all-time leader in caused turnovers earlier this year, concluded his career with 185 caused turnovers, solidifying his legacy in the program. His consistent defensive prowess included two standout games with five caused turnovers each, contributing to Lehigh's competitive edge this season.
In tennis, both the men's and women's teams achieved notable academic honors this week. Junior Alex Van Lumich was recognized as a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection for his impressive 3.92 GPA in mathematics, alongside his commendable on-court performance, which included an 18-2 singles record this season. Meanwhile, the women's team saw three players—Maggie Fornker, Giselle Vlassis, and Ronit Khromchenko—earn similar honors. Fornker, who holds a 3.58 GPA, led the team with an 11-7 singles record, while Vlassis and Khromchenko posted strong performances and GPAs of 3.81 and 3.88, respectively. Additionally, head coach Sophia Geier has been selected to attend the NCAA Women Coaches Academy, a program designed to foster leadership and professional development among women coaches. Geier expressed gratitude for the opportunity to enhance her skills and contribute to her program's culture.
