The Colby College softball team secured its place in the NESCAC semifinals for the second consecutive year with a 4-1 victory over Trinity College on May 10. Sophomore pitcher Sophia Meade delivered a strong performance in the circle, allowing the Mules (26-10) to advance. Colby struck first in the bottom of the first inning, with senior Carissa Cassidy leading off with a bunt-single, setting the stage for junior Juliana Kiley's two-out single that brought Cassidy home. The Mules extended their lead in the second inning with a one-out triple from sophomore Julia Berry, allowing two runners to score. The victory marks Colby's third trip to the NESCAC semifinals in the past four years, showcasing their consistent competitiveness in the conference. They will face the winner of the other semifinal matchup on May 14.
In women's lacrosse, the Mules faced a challenging opening round in the NCAA Division III Tournament against SUNY Cortland on May 10, ultimately falling 14-8. Freshman Joselyn Silva led the Colby attack with three goals, demonstrating her scoring prowess despite the defeat. Sophomore Emily Counihan contributed with two assists, facilitating key plays throughout the match. This marked the Mules' fifth consecutive NCAA appearance, continuing their legacy as a strong contender in Division III lacrosse.
The Colby rowing teams are poised for competition at the National Invitational Rowing Championship (NIRC) and NESCAC Championship on May 10. The men's first varsity eight crew, featuring veterans Jack Childress, Jack Weinberg, and William Eardley, aims to secure an automatic bid to the IRA Championships. Meanwhile, the women's team seeks to claim the NESCAC's automatic qualifier for the NCAA Championship, with their performance in both the 1V8 and 2V8 events critical to their success. The results from this regatta will determine their postseason trajectory.
