The Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team achieved a significant milestone this week by advancing to the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals for the first time in program history. The fifth-ranked Spartans defeated the 15th-ranked University of Mary Washington 4-0 in the third round of the tournament on May 10, improving their season record to 28-8. In this match, seniors Anmay Devaraj and Rohan Bhat secured a decisive doubles victory, while senior Matthew Plunkett contributed with a straight-set win at no. 2 singles. The Spartans will face fourth-ranked Denison in a rematch of last year's championship match on May 19 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
In softball, the Spartans concluded their regular season with a doubleheader sweep against Carnegie Mellon University on May 6, winning 7-1 and 5-4. This performance capped a successful season, bringing their overall record to 27-12 and securing a third-place finish in the University Athletic Association with a 12-6 conference mark. Notable contributions included senior infielder Elizabeth Berry, who drove in key runs, and first-year catcher Sophia Becker, who delivered a game-winning double in the second contest. The team is now poised to receive an at-large bid for the NCAA Division III Softball Championship, with the selection show scheduled for May 11.
In track and field, senior Arianna Holbrook set a new school record in the 800-meter run at the Harrison Dillard Twilight meet, finishing in 2:14.45 and placing fourth overall. Holbrook's performance broke the previous record of 2:14.64, showcasing her exceptional talent as she now holds records in both indoor and outdoor events. Other standout performances included sophomore Charlie Stipanovich, who finished second in the 400-meter dash, and senior Madison Martinez, who placed fourth in the javelin throw. The team continues to prepare for upcoming competitions as the season progresses.
