Omar Hafez, a senior on the University of Pennsylvania men's squash team, has been named a finalist for the prestigious Skillman Award, which honors sportsmanship and excellence in collegiate squash. Hafez's remarkable career includes being a First-team All-Ivy selection, winning the CSA Individual championship, and earning Ivy League Player of the Year honors this season. He also holds the record for the most career wins in Penn squash history, surpassing the previous record held by Nathan Kueh. Hafez will look to add to his accolades as he competes for a third consecutive Potter Cup this weekend, with the Quakers entering the tournament as the No. 2 seed after winning the inaugural Ivy League Tournament against Harvard.
The Penn women's squash team is also gearing up for its championship run at the Howe Cup, aiming for its first title since the 1999-2000 season. The Quakers, seeded No. 2, received a first-round bye and will face either Cornell or Amherst in the quarterfinals. The team enters the tournament following a strong performance in the Ivy League Tournament, where Sohaila Ismail, Allie Stoddard, and Hailey Wong were named to the All-Tournament team.
In swimming and diving, the men's team concluded the ECAC Championships with a third-place finish, while the women placed fourth. Sophomore Watson Nguyen earned two First Team All-Ivy selections after winning the 100 and 200 breaststroke events at the Ivy League Championships, breaking both the Princeton DeNunzio Pool and Penn program records in the 100 breast. Junior Peter Whittington also made an impact, securing two Second Team All-Ivy honors. On the women's side, Lily Zhang captured two ECAC titles in the 200 fly and 200 freestyle, contributing to the team's overall success at the championships. Zhang also led the 800 free relay team to victory, further solidifying her status as a standout athlete for Penn.
