Ethan Edwards, a graduate student guard for the Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team, delivered a historic performance on February 20, scoring 54 points in a 110-98 victory over the University of Rochester. This remarkable achievement not only set a new University Athletic Association (UAA) record but also established a new program benchmark for points in a game. Edwards shot 18-of-29 overall and 12-of-21 from three-point range, contributing to his recognition as the USBWA Division III Men's National Player of the Week and earning him spots on both the D3hoops.com Team of the Week and the UAA Athlete of the Week. His scoring effort also marked the highest single-game total in NCAA basketball this season and pushed him past the 1,000 career points milestone.
In addition to Edwards' accolades, the Case Western baseball team opened its season with a three-game sweep of Oswego State, winning 12-7, 7-1, and 10-3 over the weekend. Junior Tyler Stillson led the Spartans with seven hits, including two doubles and a triple, while also earning a win on the mound with ten strikeouts in five shutout innings. Meanwhile, the men's tennis team placed third at the ITA Division III National Men's Team Indoor Championship, defeating 11th-ranked Johns Hopkins 5-2, losing to fourth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 5-2, and finishing strong with a 4-3 victory over top-ranked Denison. Senior Rohan Bhat excelled in doubles play, winning all three of his matches during the championship.
As the Spartans continue their competitive season, the men's basketball team will look to build on Edwards' momentum in upcoming games, while baseball and tennis will aim to maintain their strong starts as they progress through their respective schedules.
