The Colby College men's squash team made history this week by reaching the Hoehn Cup finals for the first time, following a significant upset over Amherst in the semifinals. The Mules triumphed 6-3, with standout performances from Seif Ashraf, who secured a crucial fifth-game victory, and Timo Radionov, who also prevailed in a decisive match. This victory not only propelled Colby into the finals but also marked the highest national ranking in the program's history. In the championship match against MIT, the Mules fought valiantly but ultimately fell short in a tightly contested 5-4 battle. First-year Hamza Wessam set the tone with an early win, while Youssef Mostafa delivered a crucial point in a marathon match. Despite the loss, the Mules' performance throughout the tournament showcased their growth and resilience.
Meanwhile, the Colby women's squash team capped off their season with a thrilling 5-4 upset over Bowdoin in the consolation finals. After a previous loss to the Polar Bears earlier in the season, the Mules entered the match with determination. Seniors Laavanya Kugan, Nathalie Sim, and Abhisheka David each contributed significantly, with Kugan and Sim both securing decisive victories. Earlier in the week, Colby advanced to the consolation finals with a commanding 7-2 win over Wesleyan, where Tori Thill and Kugan both delivered strong performances.
In women's ice hockey, the Colby Mules advanced to the NESCAC semifinals after a decisive 6-2 victory over Hamilton in the quarterfinals. The team, ranked fourth in the conference, showcased their offensive strength and defensive prowess, with Ally Martiniello making key saves and Allie Corrieri opening the scoring. The Mules will compete in the semifinals next weekend, looking to continue their strong postseason run.
