The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team achieved a historic milestone by advancing to the NESCAC Championship finals after a grueling 2-1 victory against top-seeded Middlebury College on March 8. The Mules, seeded fourth, battled through three periods and three overtime rounds to secure the win. After Middlebury took an early lead on a power play, Lizzy Hamel equalized for Colby with a penalty shot in the second period. Goaltender Ally Martinello was instrumental, making a total of 26 saves throughout the match. The Mules will now face the winner of the other semifinal between Williams and Amherst for the championship title on March 9.
In swimming and diving, the Colby women’s team had a strong showing at the NESCAC Championships, bringing home 12 All-Conference awards, the highest total since 2005. The women's team excelled in both individual and relay events, with notable performances from Alexis Coates, who secured three All-NESCAC awards by winning the 50-yard freestyle and placing second in both the 100 and 200 backstroke events. Kellen Mottl also made headlines, winning the 50 and 100 breaststroke events and setting a new NESCAC record in the 50 breaststroke. Avery Rappaport rounded out the individual accolades by winning the three-meter dive event. The Mules' success at the championships reflects a continued commitment to excellence in the pool.
