The University of Chicago women's basketball team continues its impressive run in the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the Sweet Sixteen after a commanding 62–46 victory over the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater on March 8. After trailing at halftime, the 17th-ranked Maroons surged in the second half, outscoring the Warhawks 41–18. Key contributions came from Chris Sanders, who hit crucial three-pointers, and Bri Simpson, who provided vital baskets in the paint. Earlier in the tournament, UChicago routed Gustavus Adolphus 60–44, with a dominant defensive display that limited their opponents to just six points in the first quarter. The Maroons' strong start set the tone, as they effectively capitalized on turnovers and maintained control throughout the game. With these victories, UChicago improves to 18–7 and will look to continue their momentum in the Sweet Sixteen matchup.
In addition to the basketball team's success, senior defensive back Stirling Sakashita has been recognized as an NCAA Postgraduate Scholar. A neuroscience major and captain of the football team, Sakashita has been a standout both on and off the field, earning multiple academic honors throughout his college career. His contributions extend beyond athletics, as he has been actively involved in community service, enhancing the lives of patients at UChicago Medicine. This recognition highlights the commitment of UChicago athletes to excel academically while making a positive impact in their communities.
