The Army West Point women's basketball team secured a historic victory by defeating NJIT, 59-52, in the Second Round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) on March 22, 2026. This win marks the first time in program history that Army has advanced to the Super 16 of the WNIT, and it is the team's first home postseason victory since 1984. The Black Knights, led by Kya Smith's game-high 21 points and 17 rebounds, overcame a 15-point deficit in the second quarter. This comeback not only showcased the team's resilience but also set a record for head coach Katie Kuester, who achieved her 25th win in her inaugural season.
In swimming and diving, both the men's and women's teams are making significant strides as they head into the NCAA Championships. The men's team is set to compete at the 2026 NCAA Division I Men's Swimming & Diving Championships at Georgia Tech, featuring standout swimmers Johnny Crush and Kohen Rankin, who have qualified for individual events alongside a strong relay team. Last season, Army finished tied for 30th at the national meet, and this year they aim to improve upon that performance. Meanwhile, the women's swimming and diving team made history by sending its first competitors to the NCAA Championships since the program transitioned to Division I in 1991. Catriona Gilmore, Molly Webber, and Angie McKane represented Army at the national level, with McKane finishing 19th in the 100 butterfly preliminaries.
Additionally, Army's Janelle Harrison earned recognition as part of the WBCA Thirty Under 30 list for her contributions as an assistant coach, while Brooke Wilson and Tate Laczkowski were named to the Academic All-District Teams, highlighting the academic excellence within the athletics program. As the week progresses, all eyes will be on the NCAA Championships for the swimming teams, while the women's basketball team prepares for its next challenge in the WNIT Super 16.
