The Yale women's rowing team continued its impressive spring season by retaining the Cayuga Cup with a flawless performance against No. 9 Syracuse and Cornell on April 4. Competing at Fish Creek, the Bulldogs swept all six races, showcasing their dominance and depth across the board. The first varsity boat's success in particular highlights the team's strong trajectory as they prepare for upcoming challenges in the season.
In men's basketball, Bez Mbeng has signed a two-year contract with the Utah Jazz, solidifying his place in the NBA after a remarkable journey. Announced on April 3, this contract follows his impressive stint with the Jazz, where he averaged 5.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in his last 11 games. His standout performance in his first NBA start, where he scored 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, further demonstrates his readiness for the professional level. Notably, Mbeng made history at Yale as the first Ivy League player to earn both Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors, and he leaves a significant legacy as he transitions to the next phase of his career.
In addition to athletic achievements, Yale will host the 18th annual Mandi Schwartz Marrow Donor Registration Drive on April 15. This event honors the memory of former women's ice hockey player Mandi Schwartz and aims to encourage students and community members to join the National Marrow Donor Program registry. The drive is part of Yale's Day of Service initiative, emphasizing the importance of community involvement and the potential to save lives through marrow donation.
