Scott Gyimesi, a senior forward for the Tufts University men's basketball team, has concluded his career with a legacy marked by both individual accolades and a dramatic return from injury. After being sidelined with a grade-three ankle sprain during the NESCAC tournament, Gyimesi made a triumphant re-entry in the NCAA Sweet 16 matchup against Wesleyan University, contributing to the team's success with a basket that helped secure a lead. His performance throughout the season earned him the NESCAC Player of the Year award, solidifying his status as a key figure in Tufts basketball history. Coach Brandon Linton praised Gyimesi's impact, recalling the electrifying moment he checked into the game. Gyimesi's contributions not only highlight his personal achievements but also the resilience of the team.
In swimming and diving, four Jumbos from both the men's and women's teams have been recognized for their academic excellence. On the women's side, seniors Madeleine Dunn, Madison Hagberg, Malia Leung, and Quinci Wheeler earned spots on the 2025-26 Academic All-District® Women's Swimming & Diving Team, thanks to their impressive performances in the pool and their strong academic records. Dunn and Wheeler received this honor for the second consecutive year. Meanwhile, the men's team saw seniors Elias Brandt and Nate Pfeffer, along with juniors Jack Nussbaum and Jan Springer, also recognized on the Academic All-District® Men's Swimming & Diving Team. Both teams recently finished second at the NESCAC Championship, with Nussbaum and Springer competing at the NCAA Championships.
In hockey, junior winger Ethan Ullrick has been selected for the New England Division II-III All-Star Team, an acknowledgment of his outstanding debut season with the Jumbos. Ullrick led the team in scoring with 30 points, including 12 goals and 18 assists, and was recognized for his contributions at the annual New England Hockey Writers Dinner on April 19. His performance, particularly his five game-winning goals, was instrumental in helping Tufts achieve a balanced season, finishing with a record of 12-12-1 in the NESCAC.
As the spring season progresses, Tufts continues to celebrate both athletic and academic achievements across its sports programs.
