Lehigh University’s women’s lacrosse team achieved a significant milestone this week, securing its first Patriot League victory with an 11-10 win over Boston University on April 11. The game concluded dramatically in double overtime, with Nina DeNicola scoring the decisive goal just five seconds before the final whistle. The Mountain Hawks initially fell behind but rallied with a series of goals from Karina Van der Walt and Chloe DelNegro, establishing a lead that they maintained into the second half. This victory marks a crucial step forward for the team as they navigate their league schedule.
In track and field, both the men’s and women’s teams split their squads between two events over the weekend. At the Rutgers Relays, the men’s team saw Nic Bressi win the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.47 seconds. Joseph Nowakowski and Will Jaques also made their mark, finishing second in the shot put and third in the javelin, respectively. Meanwhile, the women’s team excelled at the same event, with Grace Kennedy winning the 400-meter hurdles and anchoring a victorious 4x400-meter relay team. Additionally, Grace Aggen had a standout performance in the field, winning the discus throw with a season-best mark of 45.97 meters.
Lehigh’s rowing teams competed at the Knecht Cup on April 12, facing tough competition from over 60 teams. The women’s first varsity four finished third in their heat, while the men’s first varsity four also placed third in their race. Coach Peter Costas noted the progress made by the teams, highlighting the application of adjustments during the competition. The Mountain Hawks are set to continue their season as they prepare for upcoming regattas.
The women’s golf team concluded its participation in the Rutgers Invitational, finishing 11th overall with a total score of 968. Senior Yuki Zhu led the team, tying for 21st place, while sophomore Alana Hall finished just behind her. The team now turns its focus to the upcoming Patriot League Championship, where they will seek to improve on their performance from this weekend.
