Colgate University's women's rowing team is gearing up for a significant summer trip to England, marking the first time in over two decades that the Raiders will compete in the Henley Women's Regatta. Scheduled for June 8, the team will first spend ten days in Syracuse, New York, for training before heading to Henley-on-the-Thames. In addition to competing in the Henley Women's Regatta, the Raiders will participate in the Reading Amateur Regatta. Head coach Jim Lister expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity, emphasizing the importance of this event in the world of rowing.
Before their international venture, the women's team showcased their potential at the Knecht Cup in Camden, New Jersey, on April 11 and 12. Competing for the first time since 2022, the Raiders' Second Varsity 4+ advanced to the Grand Finals, demonstrating significant growth amid tough competition. Lister noted that the team made analytical adjustments throughout the race weekend, which will be crucial as they progress through the season.
On the men's side, Colgate's rowing team also excelled at the Knecht Cup, achieving five first-place finishes across various events. Every athlete returned home with a medal, with standout performances from the men's frosh/novice four, which won its heat by over a minute. Assistant coach Eric Summer highlighted the solid start to the spring season, indicating that the team's strong results bode well for future competitions. The men's team will continue to build momentum as they prepare for upcoming regattas, including the finals for their respective events at the Knecht Cup.
