In a week marked by individual accolades, Army West Point's basketball programs celebrated significant honors for their standout players. Junior guard Ryan Curry was named to the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association All-Met Honorable Mention team, recognizing his exceptional performance throughout the season. Curry started all 31 games, leading the Black Knights with averages of 13.3 points, 4.5 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. His contributions included 21 games in double figures and multiple standout performances, including a career milestone of over 1,000 points. Meanwhile, junior Kya Smith received All-Met Second Team honors for her impressive season with the women's basketball team. Smith led Army in several statistical categories, including points (13.7), rebounds (10.2), and assists (107), showcasing her versatility and playmaking ability. She recorded 14 double-doubles, highlighting her consistency and impact on the court.
On the track, Army's athletes excelled at the IC4A/ECAC Championships held in Piscataway, New Jersey. The men's team finished sixth overall, while the women's team placed ninth. The highlight of the meet came from junior Austin Hernandez, who won the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 14.42 seconds. Additionally, Matthew Palchak secured a second-place finish in the men's shot put with a mark of 18.06 meters. The Black Knights collectively achieved 28 top-10 finishes across various events, demonstrating their depth and talent. Notably, Mikayla Cheney and Nathan Davis were recognized as Track Athletes of the Week for their outstanding performances at the Virginia Challenge, with Cheney setting a program record in the 1500m and Davis breaking the record in the 3000m steeplechase. The track and field team will look to build on this momentum in their upcoming competitions.
