The Bates women's rowing team celebrated a significant achievement this week, winning their eighth NESCAC title. This victory highlights the program's consistent excellence in the conference, further establishing its competitive legacy. Meanwhile, the men's rowing team also made headlines by receiving an at-large bid to the IRA National Championship Regatta, set to take place from May 29-31 in California. Their qualification comes after a strong performance at the National Invitational Rowing Championship, where the first varsity eight boat secured a fifth-place finish in the grand final. This marks the seventh time Bates has qualified for the IRAs, with their best finish being third place in 2023.
In men's lacrosse, senior captain Connor Hartman earned recognition as a third team All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine, adding to his accolades after being named first team All-NESCAC earlier this season. Hartman led the team with 50 points, including a career-high 44 goals. His standout performances included multiple games with four goals, demonstrating his pivotal role in the Bobcats' offensive strategy. Junior Miles Schmidt also received honorable mention honors, finishing the season with a .601 face-off percentage.
Softball saw junior captain Isabel Bettencourt and senior captain Delaney Rankin named second team All-NESCAC. Bettencourt led the team with six home runs and 17 RBIs, while Rankin, despite an injury-shortened season, posted an impressive 2.13 ERA over 46 innings pitched. Both players' contributions were vital to the team's 17-win season.
In tennis, four members of the men's team were recognized as Academic All-District selections, including Eric Diop, who achieved a 3.87 GPA. The women's team also had three players honored, with captains Grace LaFountain, Isabella Saul, and Iris Westmoreland making the Academic All-District list, showcasing the student-athletes' commitment to both academics and athletics.
