The Navy women's lacrosse team continues its historic run in the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the quarterfinals after a pair of hard-fought victories. The Midshipmen, ranked fifth in the nation, defeated UMass 17-16 in the first round and then edged past ninth-ranked Syracuse 11-10 in overtime. Sophomore attacker Alyssa Chung played a pivotal role, scoring the game-winning goal against Syracuse and earning recognition as the IWLCA National Offensive Player of the Week. Additionally, draw control specialist Maura Murphy was named the NAAA Athlete of the Week for her standout performance, which included a career-high 20 draw controls against UMass. Navy's next challenge comes against third-ranked Maryland on May 13, marking the team's third appearance in the NCAA quarterfinals.
In women's golf, the Midshipmen competed at the NCAA Stanford Regional, finishing the second round in 11th place with a two-day total of 38-over par 606. Senior Sue Lee led the team, tying for 45th individually, while junior Keira Howard and sophomore Vivian Cressman each improved their scores significantly in the second round. Navy's performance at the regional is ongoing, with the final round set to take place soon.
The Navy baseball team concluded its season with a loss to Bucknell in the Patriot League Semifinals. After falling 16-4 in the opening game, the Midshipmen were unable to recover in the series, losing 6-4 in the decisive second game. Despite a strong start to the season, Navy's campaign ended with a record of 30-19, falling short of a championship run.
In sailing, eight Midshipmen were honored with ICSA All-Academic accolades, recognizing their achievements both on the water and in the classroom. The honorees included seniors Nathan Smith and Jack Welburn, as well as several juniors who contributed significantly to the team's success this season.
Navy wrestling also made news this week with the appointment of Peyton Walsh as an assistant coach. A former Navy wrestler and Marine Corps veteran, Walsh brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the coaching staff, aiming to build upon the program's storied legacy.
