LOS ANGELES – The No. 23 Princeton Women's Basketball Team (No. 9 seed) fell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to the Oklahoma State Cowgirls (No. 8 seed), 82-68, at Pauley Pavilion on Saturday.
The Tigers started off strong with six of the first eight points, but Oklahoma State rallied with a 13-2 run to go up 15-8. An Ashley Chea triple got the Tigers within four, but the Cowgirls finished the quarter in front, 23-13. The Cowgirls ran off eight straight to start the second frame to jump ahead by 18, 31-13.
Princeton closed the gap to single digits, 38-30, but an 8-0 dash by Oklahoma State to finish the first half made it a 48-33 contest.
Head coach Carla Berube's squad did not quit beginning the second half with an 11-0 sprint to get within four, 48-44.
The two NCAA units exchanged runs before five consecutive points by the Tigers cut their deficit to eight, 61-53, as the fourth frame started.
Princeton was within five, 63-58, but Oklahoma State countered with nine straight points to go up 14 with 4:21 to go. The Tigers never got closer than 12 the rest of the way.
In her final game with Princeton, Madison St. Rose led the team with 17 points. Skye Belker and Chea each had 14 points while Olivia Hutcherson added 10 points in the loss. Achol Akot had 28 points and 10 rebounds in the victory for Oklahoma State.
With the loss, the careers of St. Rose and Taylor Charles comes to a conclusion. Those two helped Princeton to 96 wins, four NCAA Tournaments and three Ivy League titles.
