Flanagan Advances to NCAA Championship Semifinals; Generals Compete at NCAA Division III Championships

CEDAR RAPIDS - Washington and Lee University will send a program-record five wrestlers to the 2026 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships, set for March 13–14 at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The American Rivers Conference, in partnership with Cedar Rapids Tourism, will host the national championship event in the City of Five Seasons. The Generals' historic contingent includes Vincent Ziccardi (133), Skyler Hickman (141), Evan Lindner (149), Liam Flanagan (157) and Carter Stack (285). Each claimed ODAC Championships and First Team All-ODAC honors before securing their national bids at the NCAA Region IV Championships in Ada, Ohio. CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Washington and Lee University wrestler Liam Flanagan (157) secured NCAA Division III All-America honors and advanced to the championship semifinals on Friday during the opening day of the 2026 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse.

Flanagan posted two tightly contested victories in the championship bracket to remain unbeaten and move into Saturday morning’s semifinal round. The sophomore opened the tournament with a 4–1 decision over Thomas DiResta (Johnson & Wales) before edging Eric Kinkaid (Loras) in a 3–2 tiebreaker decision in the quarterfinals.

By advancing to the semifinals, Flanagan secured a top-eight finish and All-America status, marking Washington and Lee’s latest national wrestling honoree.

The remaining Generals competed throughout Friday’s championship and consolation rounds. Skyler Hickman (141) recorded multiple wins in the consolation bracket after dropping a close early match, while Vincent Ziccardi (133), Evan Lindner (149) and Carter Stack (285) saw their tournament runs conclude during the opening day.

Competition continues Saturday, March 14, with Session III beginning at 10 a.m. at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse. The session will feature the championship semifinals, consolation quarterfinals, and placement matches.

Saturday evening’s Session IV begins at 7 p.m. and includes the Parade of All-Americans followed by the NCAA Championship Finals.

Flanagan will represent the Generals in the 157-pound championship semifinals, where he will wrestle for a chance to advance to the national championship match.
