Wrestling’s Filipowicz and Colbert Clinch Return Trip to NCAAs; Nine Make EIWA Podium Saturday

March 07, 2026 | Wrestling

WASHINGTON, D.C.– Army West Point wrestling's

Gunner Filipowiczand

Brady Colbertsecured their spots at the NCAA Championships on Saturday at the EIWA Championships, and nine Black Knights made the podium at the conference tournament at American University.

For the junior Filipowicz, it represents his third trip to NCAAs. The sophomore Colbert will made the national tournament for the second straight year. Each join senior

Ethan Berginc, who became Army's fifth four-time qualifier in program history with Friday night's results inside Bender Arena.

One day after a sudden victory setback in the 165 lb semifinals sent Filipowicz into the consolation bracket, the Alpharetta, Ga. native defeated Navy's Dylan Elmore to officially clinch one of the four allocations to NCAAs. Filipowicz followed that effort with a major decision over Drexel's Cody Walsh in the third-place bout.

Just like Filipowicz, Colbert too was eliminated from conference title contention in Friday's semifinals, but the heavyweight wrestler bounced back on Saturday with a win over Bucknell's Logan Shephard to take one of the four auto bids at 285 lbs. A close loss to Navy's Spencer Lanosga in the third-place match mattered for podium placement, but not for the right to wrestle in Cleveland.

Ethan Bergincwas Army's sole finalist Saturday, taking the 133 lb final to overtime after seven minutes couldn't produce a winner between him and American's Maximilian Leete. However, the wrestler in his home gym scored a takedown with 13 seconds left in the extra period to win the title.

Rounding out the placements for Army were

Braden Basile(141),

Andrew Christie(174) and

Cooper Haase(184) in fourth, and

Charlie Farmer(125) and

Wolfgang Frable(197) in fifth, and

Joseph Antonio(157) in sixth.

The Black Knights also finished fourth among the 12 participating teams in the team score standings, with 117. Lehigh came away with the team title for the second consecutive season.
