#4 Men's Lightweight Rowing Wins Fosburgh Cup Over #6 Georgetown

PRINCETON, N.J. – The #4 Princeton University men's lightweight rowing team hosted the #3 University of Pennsylvania and #6 Georgetown at Lake Carnegie Saturday morning, winning the Fosburgh Cup over the Hoyas.

"To watch all 16 of our seniors compete today was special," said Head Coach Matt Smith. "They have all made such an impact on this team and boathouse over their 4 years. While the season is nowhere near being complete this was their final home race. From top to bottom the team displayed real tenacity today. While we did not win the Varsity 8+, we learned a lot. The second, third and fourth varsity races were tight races all the way by all the teams. Huge thanks to the Penn coaching staff for allowing our 5V heavy light combo boat to race. This boat had several rowers getting in their first race for Princeton. Next weekend we will head up to Boston for the epic battle against Harvard and Yale."

The Tiger's 1V win over Georgetown secured the Fosburgh Cup for a 10th consecutive season.

"The racing across the board was awesome today, especially for the seniors in their last home race," said Braeden Carroll. "To send five boats out and win three of four races against great opponents shows the depth of our team and that we're truly in the mix in every boat category. I'm especially pumped for the guys in the 4V for taking home shirts for the first time in a few years! Now we're looking ahead to a very competitive weekend in Cambridge to close out the regular season!"

While the 1V (5:39.1) earned the win over Georgetown (5:45.2), it fell just short to the Quakers (5:39.1). The 2V (5:42.8) crossed the finish line ahead of both Penn (5:46.4) and the Hoyas (5:53.0) while the 3V (5:54.9) also triumphed over the Quakers (5:58.5) and Georgetown (6:04.5). The 4V race saw the Tigers (6:00.2) come out on top against Penn (6:02.6) and a combined Princeton 5V heavyweight/lightweight combo boat (6:24.4).
