March 21, 2026 | Men's Rowing - Lightweight
**ANNAPOLIS, Md. –**The Princeton University men's lightweight rowing team opened the 2026 season with a fourth consecutive Murtaugh Cup victory over Navy.
"It was a great day of racing at Navy," said Head Coach
Matt Smith. "The competition is always fierce and for the first race of the season it was awesome to see the guys in action after a long winter. We certainly came away with a few lessons learned but are very pleased to bring the Murtaugh Cup home. We look forward to more racing this coming weekend at the National Collegiate Lightweight Invitational when we race Columbia and Dartmouth."
The Tigers won the Joseph Murtaugh Cup, named after the former Princeton and U.S. lightweight rowing coach, for the fourth consecutive season. The Tigers improved to 14-3 all-time against Navy.
The 1V (5:45.4) took down the Midshipmen (5:49.3) to secure the Murtaugh Cup victory, while the 2V finished in 5:55.8 to 6:00.6 by Navy. The 3V (6:00.5) also finished ahead of Navy (6:02.7). Princeton's 4V (6:14.1) finished ahead of the Midshipmen's 5V (6:33.8) but behind Navy's 4V (6:08.9).
