Softball sweeps doubleheader at SUNY Oneonta

Kelsey Vadnais '28 drove in the winning run in extra innings in game one and tallied three hits in game two during the Continentals' non-conference doubleheader against the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons at Oneonta's Red Dragon Softball Field on Wednesday, April 8.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (7-16 overall), which won five neutral site games in Florida, collected its first road wins of the season.

  • The Red Dragons (5-19), who are 3-1 in SUNYAC play, had won three of their last four entering the day.

Game 1 (Hamilton wins, 5-4 in 8 inn.)

How It Happened

  • Oneonta scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first for a 1-0 lead.

  • Hamilton's Nikki Dyche '28 led off the fourth with a double, and the Continentals loaded the bases with two outs but were unable to get on the board.

  • The Red Dragons doubled their lead in the fourth after Eva Blaney drove in Kayla Kean with a double to center field.

  • Hamilton tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth with the help of a double by Alexis Mayer '26 and an RBI groundout by Miranda Mosqueda '28.

  • Hadley Rogers '26 and Lydia Mirabito '26 both singled and came around to score in the sixth and the Continentals took their first lead of the game at 4-3.

  • Kean scored in the bottom of the seventh and tied the game.

  • Vadnais lifted a sacrifice fly to right field in the top of the eighth and drove in Rogers for a 5-4 Hamilton lead.

  • Oneonta put a runner on third with zero outs in the bottom of the eighth, but Hamilton's Yael Everett '28 got a big strikeout followed by two groundouts to strand the tying run at third and close out the victory.

Notes

  • Everett recorded a career-high seven strikeouts in 4.1 innings in relief and collected her team-leading third win of the season.

  • Mosqueda recorded a team-high two runs batted in.

  • Rogers led the Continentals with two hits and two runs.

  • Mayer and Dyche added one hit and one run batted in each.

  • Sophia Camacho and Kean both scored two runs for the Red Dragons.

Game 2 (Hamilton wins, 8-4 in 5 inn.)

How It Happened

  • Hamilton scored three runs in the second inning and three in the fourth to establish a 6-0 lead.

  • Vadnais doubled in the second and scored on an Everett single up the middle, and Rogers provided an RBI double in the fourth.

  • Kean ripped a two-run triple in the bottom of the fourth and the Red Dragons scored three runs to cut their deficit in half.

  • Hamilton got two runs back in the fifth with the help of an RBI single by Mayer.

  • The contest was ended after five innings due to darkness.

Notes

  • Vadnais went 3-for-3 at the plate with one run.

  • Everett tallied two hits, one RBI and two runs.

  • Juliana Abraham '29 registered a season-high two hits with one run.

  • Mayer contributed two hits, one run and one RBI.

  • Aubrey Purvis '27 was credited with her second win after recording five strikeouts in 3.2 innings.

  • Anna Spicciatie tallied two hits and one run for the Red Dragons.

Hamilton will host No. 19 Colby College (14-3, 1-1 NESCAC) for a doubleheader at the Loop Road Athletic Complex on Saturday, April 11 beginning at 12 p.m.
