BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bates softball team dropped both ends of a NESCAC doubleheader at Bowdoin on Saturday, falling 4–1 in the opener and 12–6 in game two at Pickard Diamond. The Bobcats have now lost six straight contests.

GAME ONE

Bates struck first and carried a lead into the middle innings, but Bowdoin capitalized on a key fifth-inning surge to take the opener.

DP

Maya Lee led off the game with a single, stole second, and came around to score on C

Isabel Bettencourt's RBI double to give the Bobcats a 1–0 edge.

Starting pitcher,

Delaney Rankin, kept Bowdoin in check early, working through three scoreless innings before the Polar Bears evened the score on a solo home run by C Maddie Paschke in the fourth.

The game turned in the fifth, when Bowdoin plated three runs—all unearned—to take control. Bates was limited to five hits in the contest, with Bettencourt and Lee each recording two-hit performances.

Rankin (3-4) was strong despite the result, allowing just one earned run over six innings (5 H, 1 BB, 3 K).

Maddie Currant (8-3) collected the complete-game victory for the Polar Bears (7.0 IP, 5 H, 2 BB, 8 K).

GAME TWO

Bates came out swinging in the second game and grabbed a 3–0 lead in the top of the first. Lee opened the game with a triple and scored on a passed ball, CF

Zariya Anderson later stole home, and 1B

Sophie Garber added an RBI single to cap the inning.

Bowdoin answered immediately though, scoring three times in the bottom of the first to pull even at 3–3. The Bobcats moved back in front in the second when Anderson singled home Lee to make it 4-3, but the Polar Bears seized control with an eight-run bottom of the inning.

The home team sent 11 batters to the plate in the second and turned a one-run deficit into an 11–4 lead. Paschke delivered a two-run single, DP Margaret Flannery-Goodman followed with an RBI single, and LF Sammie Wright broke the inning open with a three-run homer to right-center.

The Bobcats got a run back in the fourth when LF

Paige Schedler scored on SS

Ella Maher's sacrifice fly, then added another in the seventh when 3B

Sarah Danielson singled and advanced to second on an error, allowing Garber to score.

After Bowdoin's big second frame,

Isabella Albro settled things down in relief, allowing just one run over the final four innings.

Claire Ballard (1-1) suffered the loss for the Bobcats. Kathleen Hester stayed perfect on the year (4-0) with the complete-game win.

Bates gets back at it on Tuesday afternoon when the Bobcats host No. 20 Husson in a non-conference twin-bill. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
