Chris Sanders Earns First Career UAA Athlete of the Week Award
CHICAGO -- University of Chicago sophomore Chris Sanders was named the University Athletic Association Women's Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the association office on Monday afternoon.
CHICAGO -- University of Chicago sophomore Chris Sanders was named the University Athletic Association Women's Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the association office on Monday afternoon.
Sanders helped lead UChicago to the Sweet 16 with a pair of wins over (RV) Gustavus Adolphus and #22 UW-Whitewater. In the road win over the Warhawks, Sanders had the best game of her career with her first-career 20+-point game. She scored 25 points on 10-15 shooting and 3-7 shooting from long range.
Overall on the weekend, the Bloomfield Hills, Michigan native averaged 19.5 points on 64% shooting from the floor and 58% shooting from long range to lead the Maroons to just their second Sweet 16 in the past 14 years.
The Player of the Week award is the first of the career for Sanders and the first of the season for any player on the University of Chicago women's basketball team. She is the first Maroon to earn UAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors since** **Kate Gross on January 23, 2025.
Sanders and the rest of the women's basketball team will hit the road again this weekend as the Maroons travel to Oshkosh, Wisconsin for a Sweet Sixteen matchup with #7 Hope on Friday night.
