Ten Maroons Named to NFF Hampshire Honor Society

CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago football team had ten individuals selected to the NFF Hampshire Honor Society, as announced by the National Football Foundation on Tuesday afternoon. The NFF Hampshire Honor Society is comprised of college football players from all divisions of the NCAA, NAIA and sprint football who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or higher and are in their final year at their institution.

Collin Argue appeared in six games in his senior season before suffering a season-ending injury for the Maroons. Argue tallied 13 catches for 225 yards and a pair of touchdowns through the air. He hauled in a 39-yard touchdown in the win over Knox, and he raced to a 72-yard touchdown in the win over Lawrence en route to bringing in a season-high 98 receiving yards. Argue caps off his career with receiving totals of 28 catches for 355 yards and three touchdowns.

Michael Armstrong and

Hunter Schultz both played a big role on the UChicago offensive line during his senior season to help lead the Maroons to a 7-3 season. The offensive line led the UChicago offense to 1,714 rushing yards at 4.4 yards per carry and 1,750 passing yards while allowing only 11 total sacks in 10 games.

Hayden Canada-Hunt raked in 14 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks during his senior campaign, and he forced his first career fumble in the win over Beloit on November 8. After playing in just two games in his first three seasons at UChicago, Canada-Hunt played in 8 of the 10 games for the Maroons this season as a big present up front on the defensive line.

Luke Degner earned a 1st-Team All-MWC selection after being the top receiver in the UChicago offense with a team-high 38 catches for 749 yards and 10 touchdowns. The senior was named the Offensive Team MVP and ranked top-four in all three categories, including leading the league in receiving yards. His 10 receiving touchdowns also makes his just the fourth player in school history to tally double-digit receiving touchdowns in a single season. Degner will be transferring to the University of Southern California to complete his final season of eligibility with the Trojans in the Big Ten.

Mackey Keenan earned 2nd-Team All-MWC honors following his career-best season. The senior tallied 20 catches for 204 yards and four touchdowns, breaking his career-high in all three categories. He wraps up his career with 27 catches for 281 yards and five scores as a four-year member of the Maroons.

Zach Meyer tallied 3rd-Team All-Region and 1st-Team All-MWC honors in his senior season. Meyer led the defense for UChicago as the Overall Team MVP with 6.5 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks. Earning career highs in both those categories, the Barrington native also finished his final season with 37 total tackles. Meyer wraps up his career with 92 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, and 8 sacks in four seasons as a Maroon.

Josh Minton was tabbed as the Defensive Team MVP during his senior campaign as the defensive back tallied 28 tackles, one sack, and four pass breakups. Minton also excelled in the return game with 18 punt returns for 142 yards, an average of 7.9 yards per return. Overall in his career, Minton made 83 tackles with 1 tackle for loss, and he grabbed 3 interceptions while breaking up 16 total passes. In the return game, Minton averaged 23.8 yards per kick return and 9.6 yards per punt return with one kick return touchdown.

Jack Ruff wrapped up his senior season with 1,574 yards and 17 touchdowns on 116-199 passing. He wraps up his four-year career as a Maroon ranked fourth in program history with 4,017 passing yards, 42 total passing touchdowns, and 348 completions.

Stirling Sakashita captained the UChicago defense to be one of the best in the country this season en route to his 1st-Team All-MWC selection. The senior safety recorded 42 tackles and 2 tackles for loss while adding a pair of pass breakups and a blocked kick.
