Softball Drops Doubleheader at Emory
ATLANTA- The University of Chicago softball team battled throughout a competitive doubleheader on Saturday but came up short in both games, falling 5–4 in extra innings in the opener before dropping a 4–1 game to Emory in game two.

Game 1- Emory 5, UChicago 4
UChicago found itself in an early 4–0 hole before responding with a breakout fifth inning. The Maroons strung together five hits in the game, beginning with a single from
Hannah Schwager and a walk by
Nanako Schroth. Following a sacrifice bunt,
Madeline Murphy delivered a two-run single to right-center to get UChicago on the board.
Natalie Antin followed with a hit, and
Audrey Hui brought the Maroons within one with an RBI double to left center.
Mia Bocian completed the rally with a run-scoring single to center, evening the score at 4–4.
UChicago continued to apply pressure late, putting runners on in both the seventh and eighth innings, but was unable to push across the go-ahead run.
In the bottom of the eighth, Emory capitalized on a baserunner and a Maroons error to plate the winning run on a fielder's choice.
Murphy led the offense with two hits and two RBIs, while Antin added a pair of hits. In the circle,
Eleanor Johnson allowed just one earned run over 4.2 innings.
Game 2: Emory 4, UChicago 1
In game two, UChicago was unable to overcome an early deficit in a 4-1 loss to Emory.
The Maroons answered an Eagles run in the first with a response in the second inning, as
Matilda Nelson slammed a solo home run down the left-field line to tie the game at 1–1.
Emory regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning and added two more runs in the fifth to extend their lead. UChicago continued to battle at the plate, creating opportunities late in the game.
The Maroons threatened in the seventh inning, placing multiple runners on base, but could not come up with the timely hit needed to close the gap.
Nelson accounted for UChicago's lone run, while
Natalie Antin and
Audrey Hui each contributed hits.
Nicole Wong started in the circle and allowed four runs over five innings in the loss.
