Patel and Parker Run 2nd and 3rd-Best 5000m Times in UChicago History

Evan Parker represented the University of Chicago men's track and field team at the UW-Platteville Invitational on Friday night with record times in the 5000m Run.

Sanju Patel earned a 15th-place finish in the talented field of competitors with a time of 14:15.73 that ranks as the #2 time in UChicago history, trailing only the school record time of 14:06.59 that was set by Mike Axinn in 1980. His time also breaks his own collegiate best by just under nine seconds.

Evan Parker broke the University of Chicago freshman record in the 5000m Run by nearly 22 seconds with a time of 14:16.93. He broke the freshman record time of 14:38.75 that was set by Ryan Cutter in 2018. Parker finished in 18th place with the third-best time overall in UChicago history, trailing only Patel and Axinn.

The rest of the University of Chicago men's track and field team will return to action on Saturday to wrap up the final day of competition at the Chicagoland Championships.
