No. 19 Ephs suffer 14-3 setback at No. 3 Wesleyan in NESCAC Quarterfinals

Paige Nelson of the sixth-seeded and No. 19-ranked Williams College women's lacrosse team scored twice Saturday afternoon during a 14-3 loss to third-seeded and No. 3 Wesleyan in the NESCAC Quarterfinals on Smith Field.

The Ephs (9-7, 5-5 NESCAC) took a 2-1 lead with 5:09 remaining in the first quarter behind goals by Nelson and junior

Ainsley Abel. The Cardinals (14-2, 8-2 NESCAC) responded by scoring 13 consecutive goals and took an 8-2 advantage into halftime.

Dylan Green (5 goals) and Elle Priesing (2 goals, 2 assists) led the way for Wesleyan. Goalie Izzy Weintraub stopped 10-of-13 shots for a .769 save percentage for the hosts.

Junior attack

Sydney Puntus assisted on the first goal of the game for the visitors, and then Nelson ended the scoring on a free-position goal with 56 seconds left in the fourth. Senior captain and defender

Coco Norman finished with three ground balls, respectively.

The Ephs will learn if they qualify for the national tournament during the NCAA Division III selection show on Monday, May 4, at 10:30 a.m.
