Ephs Split Saturday Doubleheader

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA

— The Williams College baseball team split a Saturday doubleheader with Wesleyan, falling 10–4 in game one before bouncing back for a 13–5 win in game two.

The Ephs ultimately dropped the three-game NESCAC series, 1–2, over the weekend. Williams now sits at 7-14 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

Game One

Williams struck first in the second inning when

Will Scott reached on an infield single, allowing

Hank Jacobus to come home on a throwing error and give the Ephs an early 1–0 lead.

Wesleyan answered in the third on a sacrifice fly to even the score, but Williams quickly regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning.

Quinn Carlesimo delivered an RBI single to right field, scoring

Ryan Nakajima to make it 2–1.

The Cardinals responded once again, tying the game in the fourth on a Williams error before breaking things open in the fifth. Wesleyan plated seven runs in the inning to take control and extend the lead to 9–2.

Williams responded in the sixth, highlighted by a solo home run to left field from

JH Vaughan.

Oliver Rey later added an RBI single to trim the deficit to 9–4, but Wesleyan tacked on one more in the seventh to secure the 10–4 final.

Game Two

The Ephs wasted no time getting on the board in game two, as they pushed three runs across the plate in the first inning.

Rey opened the scoring with an RBI single to right, followed by an RBI double from

Dave Mosrie. Vaughan capped the early rally with an RBI single to give Williams a 3–0 lead.

Wesleyan answered in the second, stringing together three consecutive RBIs to even the score at 3 apiece.

Williams quickly regained control in the bottom half of the inning, taking advantage of a Wesleyan error to plate

Ben Swank and move back in front, 4–3.

The Ephs took control in the fourth, adding three more runs, as

Sasha Palma delivered an RBI single to center, followed by Vaughan with his second RBI knock of the day.

A passed ball later in the inning allowed another run to score, extending the Williams lead to 7–3.

Wesleyan cut the deficit in the sixth with a pair of runs, but Williams continued to respond back, as Palma came through with an RBI double to push the lead to 8–5.

The Ephs put the game out of reach in the eighth, breaking it open with a five-run inning. Nakajima recorded his fourth hit of the game with an RBI double before coming around to score on a passed ball. Palma added another RBI single, while

Anthony Lods drew a bases-loaded walk and

Ellington Fagan chipped in with an RBI groundout to secure the 13–5 victory.

Palma led the offensive effort in game two with three hits and three RBIs, while Vaughan also contributed a pair of RBI singles.

Williams returns home on Tuesday as they host Sage College beginning at 4:00 p.m.
