Dunayevich Breaks 5000m Freshman Record at UW-Platteville Invitational

PLATTEVILLE -- The University of Chicago women's track and field team sent two distance runners to the UW-Platteville Invitational on Friday night to represent the Maroons in the 5000m Run.
Katja Dunayevich made her collegiate debut in the Outdoor 5000m Run, and the freshman made an immediate statement by taking down the UChicago freshman record in the event. Dunayevich ran a time of 16:47.06 en route to a sixth-place finish, beating the freshman record by over four seconds. Her time also ranks as the 7th-best time in school history in the event.
Estelle Snider also brought home a top-20 finish in the meet as she ran a time of 17:07.72 to finish in 20th.
The rest of the University of Chicago women's track and field team will return to action on Saturday at Elmhurst University as the team wraps up the final day of competition at the Chicagoland Championships.
