Softball Team Advances to Ivy Tournament Final
An early run and lots of insurance late helped the top-seeded Princeton softball team past third-seeded Columbia 6-1 on Friday at Cynthia Lynn Paul '94 Field and into Saturday's final.

The Tigers struck first in the top of the first inning. Julia Dumais led off with a double to left center, and Dominguez followed with a double of her own to the gap in left center to bring Dumais home and give Princeton a 1-0 lead.
Columbia tied the game in the third, when Kyra Mason singled with two out and Eleni Katsivalis followed with an RBI double to left. Shaw avoided further damage, getting a flyout to right with runners on the corners to keep the game even at 1-1.
Princeton went back in front in the fifth. Maddie Ratcheson led off with a single and came home two batters later on a Dominguez single to put the Tigers ahead 2-1.
Princeton broke the game open in the sixth. Jessica Phelps and Mia Valenzuela singled before pinch-hitter Lola Coole walked to load the bases. Ratcheson singled to score Phelps, and two batters later, Dominguez delivered again, getting a base hit to score Julieta Roa and Valenzuela. Ratcheson later scored on a passed ball to make it 6-1.
Dominguez finished 4 for 4 with a double and four RBIs while Ratcheson went 2 for 3 with an RBI.
In the circle, Shaw earned the win, improving to 15-3 after allowing one run on three hits over five innings. She struck out five without a walk. Wright threw the final two innings, allowing one hit and striking out two, as the Tigers held Columbia to four hits and did not issue a walk.
The Tigers will face Columbia again on Saturday for the Ivy League Tournament title and NCAA tournament automatic bid. Game time is tentatively set for 5 p.m. due to expected weather.
