No. 20 Baseball Advances to Game Six of NESCAC Tournament with 15-6 Victory Over Host Trinity (Conn.)
HARTFORD, CT (May 9-10, 2026) – The Tufts University baseball team matched up against Trinity (Conn.) on day two of NESCAC Championship weekend after both teams won yesterday. The Jumbos defeated the Bantams, 15-6, to advance and compete for the NESCAC Title.

For the Jumbos (29-9, 8-4 NESCAC),
Emmet Christian took the bump as the starting arm. The sophomore struck out seven batters and allowed just one earned run through his first five innings on the hill, ending with nine whiffed batters and his seventh win of the season.
In the top of the first, Tufts continued their pattern of scoring early and posted three runs on the board.
James Henshon led off the game with a single up the middle and advanced to second after
Jack Kamin walked.
Tate Bannish then single through the right side of the infield to score Henshon and advance Kamin to third. Bannish stole second and a ground out from
Owen McKiernan scored Kamin. Bannish crossed home after
Tom Pender singled through the left side of the infield.
The Bantams were able to put a run through in the opening frame as well after Tyler Bernstein homered over the right field fence.
The Jumbos put together a five-run barrage in the top of the third to ush their advantage to seven.
Tom Pender had a home run and a single in the inning, while Henshon (2), Kamin (1) and Whitfield (1) batted in the remaining tallies.
Tufts scored again in the top of the fifth inning to stretch their lead to eight runs.
Jesse McCullough put a runner into scoring position with a double down the left field line and moved to third after a Henshon fly out. Kamin then brought home McCullough with a single through the left side of the infield.
Trinity (Conn.) cut their deficit to seven with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Andrew Park was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a single from Brett Stone. Timmy Domizio singled to left field which loaded up the bases for the Bantams and Cole Mascolo scored Stone and Park with a two-run single to the opposite side. Bernstein then picked up his second and third RBI of the day with a base knock into center field to score Mascolo and Domizio.
The Jumbos extended their lead back to nine with two runs in the top of the seventh. Whitfield and McKiernan both reached on a walk and a single, respectively, and a double steal saw both runners in scoring position. Pender has been scorching at the plate all weekend and recorded another hit to score both base runners.
After a rain delay, the game resumed the following day with the Bantams up to bat in the bottom of the seventh.
Mitchell Hwang relieved Christian in the seventh frame and went 1-2-3 with two strikeouts in his only inning on the mound.
Tufts put another run through in the top of the eighth after a Bannish double into left center field scored Henshon from first base, pushing their lead back to 10.
The three Jumbo pitchers combined for 12 total strikeouts, while Pender (4-for-5) and Bannish (3-for-6) each had three-plus hits and combined for six RBI.
The Jumbos advance to Game 6 with the win and will face with winner of Game 5 between Amherst and Trinity (Conn.) which will take place 45 minutes after the completion of Game 5.
