Pushing for Ivy Title, Baseball to Host Columbia on Wednesday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown baseball team will host its final regular season home game on Wednesday afternoon when the Bears host Columbia at Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium at 3 p.m. Having already clinched a spot in the Ivy League Tournament, Brown is still alive for the Ivy League title and can still earn the No. 1 seed and the right to host the tournament.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown baseball team will host its final regular season home game on Wednesday afternoon when the Bears host Columbia at Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium at 3 p.m. Having already clinched a spot in the Ivy League Tournament, Brown is still alive for the Ivy League title and can still earn the No. 1 seed and the right to host the tournament.

The Bears and Lions have split the first two games of the season series, with Brown winning 6-1, and Columbia earning a 12-2 win as part of an April 18 doubleheader.

  • A win over Columbia on Wednesday, AND wins in all three games this weekend at Penn

CAREER MILESTONES

  • Senior Mika Petersen moved into the top 10 in career hits this past weekend and currently sits tied for seventh in program history with Devin Thomas '07 at 192.

  • Petersen also moved into the top 10 in career at bats this past weekend and currently ranks 10th with 592.

  • Petersen (37) is five steals shy of climbing into the top 10 in program history for career stolen bases (42).

  • Senior DJ Dillehay now ranks seventh in program history with 114 career RBIs, 10 shy of climbing into the top five.

  • Senior Christian Keel has seven career saves, four shy of the program record of 11, held by Matt Kimball '11. Six of those saves have come this season. Kimball also holds the single season saves record with 10 in 2009.

SCOUTING BROWN (19-16, 11-6 Ivy)

  • The Bears are coming off their first Ivy series loss of the season this past weekend to Cornell, dropping the final two games 2-1 (13 innings) and 8-3. Brown won the opener 16-4.

  • Brown's team ERA in Ivy League play is 2.86, the only team in the Ivy League with an ERA under 4.00 in league games.

  • Freshman Drew Nelson (1st/1.57) and senior Dylan Reid (3rd/2.18) rank in the top three in league games in ERA.

  • Senior Mika Petersen has been a force in Ivy League games, leading the league in average at .453, the only player hitting over .400. Overall, he is hitting .350 on the season, which ranks fourth in the Ancient Eight.

  • Petersen carries a 16-game hitting streak into Wednesday.

  • Petersen, along with sophomore Alex Benevento are tied for second the team with 27 RBIs. Benevento is hitting .297 on the season and is second on the team with 15 steals. He also leads the team with five home runs.

  • Senior DJ Dillehay leads the team with 35 RBIs and is tied for second on the team with eight doubles.

  • Freshman shortstop Matt Luigs is hitting .295 and leads the team with 21 walks and is fifth in the league with 17 steals. He also has a nine-game hitting streak.

  • Senior Mark Henshon has reached base in 26 of his last 30 games, including 11 straight. He's drawn 16 walks and is riding a six-game hitting streak.

SCOUTING COLUMBIA (13-21-1, 8-8-1)

  • Columbia is coming off a wild weekend that saw them take two games from Yale, and tie the third game in a slugfest.

  • The Lions rallied from seven runs down, scoring three in the bottom of the ninth for a 9-8 walkoff win in Sunday's game one, before Yale rallied from a 10-0 deficit to force a 15-15 tie in the nightcap.

  • Columbia is hitting .282 in Ivy contests, good for second in the league.

  • Their 5.00 ERA sits fourth.

  • Jack Kail is hitting .389, good for third in the Ivy in league games, he also ranks in the top six in the league in on-base pct. (5th/.451), hits (4th/28), RBIs (6th/18), and leads the league with 10 doubles.
