Baseball Takes Season Series from Harvard with 6-3 Win

The first seven hitters in Brown's lineup all registered hits, with Benevento scoring three times including on a two-run homer in the seventh inning. Reid carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and tossed 7.0 strong innings, striking out seven while allowing three runs (one earned), three hits and one walk. Christian Keel locked down the final six outs for his sixth save.

After stranding three runners through the first three innings, Brown broke through with an unearned run in the fourth. Benevento reached on an error, stole second and third, and scored on a two-out single by Mark Henshon for the 1-0 lead.

Brown tacked on three more unearned runs in the fifth thanks to a pair of Harvard errors to extend the lead to 4-0. Mika Petersen walked, then hustled around from second base to score on a throwing error that extended the inning, then Meusy followed with a big two-run double to left center field to score Benevento and DJ Dillehay.

Reid faced the minimum through five, issuing one walk and carried a no-hitter through the first 5.2 innings before the Crimson broke through in the sixth following an error and a pair of hits that cut the Brown lead in half to 4-2.

The Bears quickly got both runs right back in the top of the seventh as Petersen was hit by a pitch, and Benevento followed by greeting the new reliever with a long home run to left center field on the first pitch to extend the lead to 6-2.

Harvard used a double and ground out to plate a run in the bottom of the seventh.

The Bears will return home for a three-game series this weekend against Cornell. First pitch of Saturday's game one will be at 11:30 a.m. As part of Saturday's doubleheader, Brown will hold a ceremony recognizing its 11-member senior class.
