**HAMDEN, Conn. –**Brown women's hockey (17-13-2) dropped game one of the ECAC Quarterfinals to Quinnipiac (25-7-3), 6-3, in M&T Bank Arena on Friday (Feb. 27).

Margot Norehadscored twice for the Bears and

Jade Iginlaadded a goal.

Monique Lyonsfinished the night with a career-high three assists.

Rory Edwardshad 23 saves on the night. The Bears outshot the Bobcats 40-29.

"Offensively we had a strong effort from the team," said head coach

Melanie Ruzzi. "I thought we competed hard but let up some odd-man rushes and we gave up some pucks we shouldn't have. We just need to hold on to pucks, keep attacking their goaltender and it will be a different game tomorrow."

Quinnipiac got the scoring started halfway through the first as Kahlen Lamarche beat Edwards. Under a minute into the second period, the Bobcats pushed their lead to 2-0 as Brown's defense allowed a skater to get right in front of the net for a pass to get the puck past a sprawling Edwards.

Brown was able to respond at 9:49 in the second as

Monique Lyonscharged the net. Felicia Frank (37 saves) made the first save but Iginla was right there to put home the rebound and cut the lead in half.

Less than 30 seconds later, Quinnipiac sent the puck on net and it slipped through Edwards to bring the deficit back to two.

Brown was on the power play to close out the second period. As the Bears sent the puck in toward the net, Frank pushed it aside, but Norehad was there to get enough of the rebound to get the puck across the goal line and make it 3-2 going into the third period.

The Bears earned a power play 10 seconds into the third period but a turnover led to a two-on-one that Quinnipiac turned into a shorthanded goal to take a 4-2 lead. The Bobcats would add another on a delayed penalty. An empty net goal as the Bears were trying to climb back into the game made it 6-2.

Norehad would strike for her second of the night with just over four minutes left. Lyons found Norehad at the dot of the far circle and the junior ripped one past Frank.

GAME NOTES

  • Iginla and Lyons both pushed their point streaks to eight games. That number is a career-high for both players and the longest point streak by a Bear under head coach

Melanie Ruzzi. - With Iginla's goal, she teams with Lyons to be the first Bear duo to have 30+ points in a season since 2005-06.

  • Brown's power play goal in the second period gives Brown a power play goal in all three meetings against the Bobcats this season. Quinnipiac entered the game with the best penalty kill in the NCAA (90%).

  • Norehad pushed her point streak to four games and score her first goal in her last five contests. It was a her third two-goal game of the season.
