Shrikeshav Murugesan Earns UAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week Honors

CHICAGO -- University of Chicago sophomore Shrikeshav Murugesan was named the University Athletic Association Men's Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the association office on Monday afternoon.

CHICAGO -- University of Chicago sophomore Shrikeshav Murugesan was named the University Athletic Association Men's Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the association office on Monday afternoon.

Murugesan was undefeated this week to help the Maroons advance to the National Quarterfinals with a 4-0 win over #38 Luther and a 4-1 win over #10 Kenyon.

The Edison, New Jersey won both doubles matches 6-1, earning five breaks of serve in the seven service games against. Then, he picked up the lone ranked singles win of the weekend when he took down Kenyon's #1 singles player, a national singles qualifier, with a dominant 6-1, 6-4 win.

The Player of the Week award is the third of the season and the career for Murugesan, and he is one of four UChicago players to earn Player of the Week honors this season, joining Michael Choi, Alexander Ekstrand, and Christian Liew.

Murugesan and the rest of the men's tennis team earned a trip to the National Quarterfinals with a pair of wins over #38 Luther and #10 Kenyon.The Maroons will take on #7 Bowdoin on Tuesday, May 19, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with a trip to the National Semifinals on the line.
