#2 Women's Tennis Takes Down #19 Gusties to Head to Ninth Consecutive National Quarterfinal Round

ST. PETERS, Minn. -- The 2nd-ranked University of Chicago women's tennis team earned a 4-0 sweep over 19th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus to punch its ticket to the NCAA DIII Women's Tennis Tournament Quarterfinals for the ninth consecutive season.

ST. PETERS, Minn. -- The 2nd-ranked University of Chicago women's tennis team earned a 4-0 sweep over 19th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus to punch its ticket to the NCAA DIII Women's Tennis Tournament Quarterfinals for the ninth consecutive season.

The Maroons took control early, winning the doubles point and setting the tone for the match.

Isabelle Chong and

Clara Zou dominated their Gusties opponents, 6-1, at the #3 spot, securing the first win of the day. Soon after, at #2 doubles, the freshman duo of

Tina Kintiroglou and

Lily Zawaneh bounced their opponents, 6-3, to seal the doubles point for UChicago.

In singles, the Maroons found their rhythm early, not dropping a single set to Gustavus Adolphus. At the #3 spot,

Anika Paul defeated Gustavus' Austin in two straight sets to get the 6-2, 6-2 victory. Chong followed behind, defeating her opponent 6-2, 6-0, to earn the Maroons' third point. Closing out the win for UChicago, Zawaneh took down the Gusties' Omar, 6-1,6-2, at #4 singles.

Brooke Pedersen, and Zou were all leading their opponents with a first-set win before the match was finalized.

With the win, UChicago improves to 18-4 overall and advances to the National Quarterfinal round of the tournament in Chattanooga, Tennesse. The #2 Maroons are set to face #5 Babson on May 18.
