HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth softball team dropped both games of its doubleheader against Yale on Saturday, falling 10-1 in the opener before a 12-0 loss in game two at Dartmouth Softball Park.
In game one, Dartmouth held Yale scoreless in the first, but the Bulldogs broke through in the second inning with six runs. Yale had multiple RBI hits and took advantage of two errors to go up 6-0. The Bulldogs then extended their lead to 7-0 in the fourth with an RBI single.
Dartmouth got on the board in the bottom half of the fourth when Olivia Schramm hit a solo home run to center field. Marilyn Beauvais followed with a double to give the Big Green some momentum, but the rally was cut short.
Yale responded with three runs in the fifth, pushing the lead to 10-1. Dartmouth put a runner on in the bottom of the inning, but could not extend the game.
In game two, Yale jumped out quickly, scoring three runs in the first inning with a string of hits, including a two-run double. The Bulldogs broke the game open in the second with six more runs, using extra-base hits, walks, and a Dartmouth error to take a 9-0 lead.
Yale added to its advantage in the third with a triple and an RBI groundout, and extended the lead to 12-0 in the fourth following a walk, an error, and an RBI double. The Big Green's best scoring opportunity came in the third inning when Faby Serna recorded a single, but the inning ended before Dartmouth could capitalize.
Dartmouth will close its final home series tomorrow when hosting Yale at 12:30 p.m. for Senior Day, which will feature a pre-game ceremony for the two graduating players.
