No. 9 Women's Crew Wins Dunn Bowl Against Cornell

4/30/2026 10:40:00 AM | Women's Crew

ITHACA, N.Y. - Brown Women's Crew won all four races at Cornell on April 25 to retain the Dunn Bowl.

The First Varsity 8, coxed by Summer Balla-Kellett and stroked by Sydney Chait-Walter, placed first with a time of 6:26.5, 19 seconds over Cornell (6:45.5). Establishing a strong lead at the beginning of the piece, the First Varsity 8 held onto this position through the end.

Coxed by Caitlyn Roddy and stroked by Isla Wilding, the Second Varsity 8 finished 28 seconds ahead of Big Red. Brown and Cornell ended the two-thousand-meter event in 6:33.3 and 7:01.4, with our Bruno women starting ahead and maintaining first place throughout the race.

Racing both Cornell's A4 (7:54.9) and B4 (7:58.7), the Brown A4 crossed the finish line at 7:31.6, 23 and 27 seconds ahead of Cornell's boats, respectively. Coxed by Brooke Halvorsen and stroked by Sophie Perkel, our A4 had to fight an aggressive A4 from Cornell. Both of Cornell's crews, with senior Ellie Knight's sister in the B4, held with Brown at the beginning. Eventually, Brown pulled away to secure the win.

In the final event of the morning, the Third Varsity 8 continued Brown's first-place streak with a time of 7:02.9. Coxed by Sabrina Seville and stroked by Valerie Xu, the Third Varsity 8 faced off with Cornell in the closest race of the day. After Brown's crew pulled ahead, Cornell's 3V and 4V kept the separation at only a few seats of open water. Although they walked back through the turn, Cornell's perseverance was not enough against Brown. Cornell's Third Varsity 8 crossed the finish with a time of 7:04.9, six seconds ahead of their Fourth Varsity 8 (7:10.9).

On May 3, our Bruno women will compete in The Eastern Sprints, taking on 15-plus crews on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts. Aiming to surpass last year's top three finishes across the board, Brown Women's Crew will bring its grit and determination to the final race before the Ivy League Championships.
