University of Virginia (UVA), Rutgers, Syracuse at Princeton:
Brown Women's Crew once again traveled to Princeton, New Jersey, for the April 11th Princeton Invite, competing in a multi-session day of racing. Saturday morning brought close, competitive racing throughout.
The First Varsity 8 started down on UVA but up on Rutgers. What looked like a definitive win for UVA turned into a Bruno lead when Brown passed Virginia in the latter half of the race. Coxed by Summer Balla-Kellett and stroked by Calissa Snyder Cox, the First Varsity 8 (7:04.9) finished 4 seconds ahead of UVA (7:09.3) and 14 seconds ahead of Rutgers (7:18.1). In the afternoon, Syracuse's crew got off the starting line faster and held the lead throughout the race. Although our Bruno women (6:59.9) closed the gap at times, it was ultimately a Syracuse win with 6:55.9.
Coxed by Caitlyn Roddy and stroked by Sydney Chait-Walter, the Second Varsity 8 earned a special shoutout for rowing undefeated throughout the weekend. In the morning, Brown maintained a decisive lead throughout the 2000-meter race. Although UVA (7:14.2) and Rutgers (7:26.6) closed the gap at the finish, Brown's solid lead secured first place with a time of 7:11.9. The boat performed similarly in the afternoon, pulling ahead early and widening the gap over the course of the 7-minute event. Syracuse finished second with a time of 7:20.8, putting up a strong fight against our Bruno women (7:11.6).
In the third race of the day, the A4, coxed by Katherine Mitchell and stroked by Isla Wilding (8:01.9), lost to UVA (8:00.5) by a little more than a second, finishing two seconds ahead of Rutgers (8:03.6). In one of the closest races of the weekend, contact was maintained among all three crews throughout the race. In such an intense race, UVA, Brown, and Rutgers fought fiercely, maintaining internal focus among both rowers and coxswains. In the afternoon, the A4 (7:47.3), still stroked by Isla Wilding but now coxed by Brooke Halvorsen, started and opened a gap against Syracuse (7:57.3), finishing ten seconds ahead of the Syracuse Orange.
Coming in second to the UVA Cavaliers (7:40.8), the Brown Bears' Third Varsity 8 (7:55.7) beat Rutgers' Third Varsity 8 (7:57.8) and Fourth Varsity 8 (8:10.2) by two and 15 seconds, respectively. After an open-water separation from UVA, Brown and Rutgers fought a close race to the finish. The morning's race was stroked by Valerie Xu and coxed by Sabrina Seville, with Seville switching with Amelia Mawn in the afternoon. Our Bruno women, although again coming in second in the later race, stayed centered against Syracuse's strong performance (7:19.5), crossing the finish line with a time of 7:39.2.
The Bruno B4, coxed by Brooke Halvorsen and stroked by Sophie Perkel (7:58.8), led for most of the morning's final race, losing first place in the last second. UVA (7:58.2) won by 0.6 of a second, finishing the closest race of the day and one of the smallest margins of the weekend. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights came in third at 8:10.8, ending Saturday's morning races. Fiona Daly took Halvorsen's place for the final race of Saturday. In the afternoon, our Bruno women (7:59.3) stayed close to the Syracuse women (8:01.0) throughout, finishing two seconds ahead of the other crew.

The weekend ended in Overpeck, New Jersey, where our Bruno women took on Columbia University and Boston University on Sunday morning. All five boats raced in a strong tailwind, pushing the grittiness of the team in challenging racing conditions.
The Third Varsity 8 started Sunday's races with a victory. Having started down on the start against Columbia, our Bruno women walked through the Lion's crew at the second 1000-meter mark for an ultimate win. Coxed by Carina D'Souza and stroked by Valerie Xu, the Third Varsity 8 finished with a time of 6:52.3, three seconds ahead of Columbia (6:55.1).
After a false start, the B4 won by four seconds on its second chance. After starting ahead, the Brown boat secured the lead over Columbia and Boston University at 500 meters. Coxed by Katherine Mitchell and stroked by Sophie Perkel, the B4 finished at 7:19.9, with Columbia at 7:25.4 and Boston University at 7:36.6.

The Boston University Terriers finished second in 6:31.3, seven seconds ahead of Columbia (6:38.5).
Coxed by Summer Balla-Kellett and stroked by Calissa Snyder Cox, the First Varsity 8 started half a boat length behind Columbia at the first 500 meters. In a nail-biting race, our Bruno women gave it everything they had and pulled ahead in the final 250 meters for an ultimate Brown win of 0.9 seconds (6:21.2). Columbia came in second at 6:22.1 and Boston University came in third with a time of 6:30.2.
