Lovett, Sward Named to Academic All-Patriot League Team

Lehigh junior infielders Holly Lovett and Peyton Sward have been selected to the Academic All-Patriot League team, announced Wednesday. The duo are productive players on the left side of Lehigh's infield and two of the Mountain Hawks' top performers in the classroom.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh junior infielders Holly Lovett and Peyton Sward have been selected to the Academic All-Patriot League team, announced Wednesday. The duo are productive players on the left side of Lehigh's infield and two of the Mountain Hawks' top performers in the classroom.

Both Lovett and Sward hold 3.80 cumulative GPAs, with Lovett majoring in economics and Sward in accounting. They both are two-year members of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and have both been recognized as NFCA Scholar-Athletes. Lovett and Sward were College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selections a season ago.

Sward garners Academic All-Patriot League distinction for the second straight year.

On Tuesday, Sward earned her third career All-Patriot League honor with a first team selection. She started 53 games at shortstop, batting .371, which ranks second on the team. Sward led Lehigh with 19 stolen bases and ranked among team leaders with 63 hits, 35 runs scored, three triples and 34 RBIs.

Lovett appeared in 46 games, including 42 starts, seeing time at third base and first base. She ranked third on the Mountain Hawks with a .302 batting average and contributed 35 hits, 20 runs scored, four home runs and 17 RBIs. All four of Lovett's home runs came last month, including two in one game April 18 at Bucknell.

Boston University pitcher Kasey Ricard was voted Scholar-Athlete of the Year for softball.

The Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Academic All-Patriot League teams are voted on by the league's sports information directors. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
