VILLANOVA, Pa. – First-year Addison Moorman fired a two-hit shutout to lead Lehigh to its third straight win as the Mountain Hawks defeated Villanova 5-0 in their final non-league game Tuesday at the Villanova Softball Complex. Moorman was supported by an offense that registered 11 hits to move to 25-26 on the season.

Ten different Mountain Hawks recorded a hit, with junior Peyton Sward leading the way with two.

Moorman tossed her third complete game shutout of the season, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out six in her 10th victory of the season.

The game was scoreless through three innings, with Moorman working out of a severe jam in the third. Moorman retired the first six batters she faced before walking Katie Reed to open the third. Madison Ostrowski singled and the Wildcats eventually put runners on second and third with one out. The righthander struck out Maddie Burrows for the second out, then after issuing a walk to load the bases, caught Lexi Kobryn looking to end the threat.

Sward led off the fourth with a single up the middle and promptly stole second. Junior Holly Lovett singled to center, scoring Sward to give Lehigh a 1-0 lead. Junior Gracie Smith plated pinch runner Maia D'Amico with a ground out as Lehigh led 2-0 midway through the contest.

Lehigh added another run in the fifth as Sward singled home sophomore Kelly Fricker and plated two more runs in the sixth on RBI singles by first-years Lola Fasano and Kyra Neiswender.

Villanova's only other hit was an infield single by Jaclyn Morra in the fifth.

The Mountain Hawks will close out the regular season this weekend when they host Lafayette for three games in the Rivalry, presented by Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute, part of Jefferson Health. A doubleheader is set for Saturday at noon, which will also serve as Lehigh's Alumnae Day; The series will conclude with a single game Sunday at noon when Lehigh will celebrate its senior class.

At 4-11, Lehigh remains alive for a Patriot League Tournament berth. The Mountain Hawks must win at least two games against the Leopards and have Bucknell lose all three of its games at Colgate to reach the postseason.
